[sims] URGENT Timetable Cycle Issue!

Hello,

 

I have just made a change and need help urgently http://awscdn.cdngeek.net/images/smilies/frown.png

 

We have booster periods here and on the cycle they are called 'Bst'. Booster periods do not happen until a couple of weeks. But we are to rename these to "7" so that on their timetable it is considered as period 7.

 

I did this as of tomorrow and I didn't think any attendance would be affected as the classes have not yet started.

 

All looked good until the attendance officer tried to input future attendance grades for excluded students and she noticed that future attendance was greyed out and not editable. Obviously I am in a bit of a panic. I then reverted it back to Bst to hopefully resolve the issue but it is still an issue.

Is taking ages, how long roughly would this take? I cannot tell if it is doing it or if SIMs has stopped responding.

It takes a few minutes normally, as it's updating ALL the attendance data (both for lessons and sessions) for the time period going forwards.

 

The other thing to remember, is that marks entered in advance will need to be re-entered too (or at least, it always used to work that way).

 

Have you changed the number or type of any of the periods in the cycle? If so, you'll need to do something else as well to make it work.

All I changed was the name of a period. I think the Apply Timetable process has crashed on me

Should everyone be logged out of SIMS whilst I apply timetable? A few have told me it has crashed on them which i assume is my fault?!

Normally if I were changing the name of a period, I'd change the cycle too. I doubt it will work otherwise (as you are discovering )

 

To do this, send through a cycle with an extra period in it, starting say tomorrow, and then apply timetable (just to be safe); then send another with the actual cycle you want, starting Sunday (and then apply timetable).

 

The change in number of periods makes sure that SIMS "knows" that the cycle has changed; in previous versions of SIMS, not doing this meant that SIMS just continued the old cycle through.

 

Normally this kind of thing is best done outside of school hours! Because it impacts on lesson monitor, your best scenario is that it slows people down or boots them out of SIMS, and the worst scenario is that something breaks. It's all fixable though, so don't panic

Lol thanks. I have stopped because everyone's SIMS crashed! I will wait till after School when the network manager will make sure only I am logged on.

Even with everyone out of SIMS apply timetable seems to be taken a very long time, I am sure it has crashed again. I added an extra period and that is what i am applying now.

I'm going to try one more thing and then restore to back up if needed

Try applying the timetable for a very short date range, and it can go through quicker, or at least indicate a problem sooner.

Just get it done for a week say, to prove it works.
