Is anyone using Microsoft LYNC yet in schools?

Just for fun I thought I would run a trial with our office staff and they absolutely love it, as its very easy to communicate with colleagues. I always thought it would be a distraction but people seem to be using it very responsibly, sending files, remote control ect. Its really been quite a revelation.

The main problem I have is how to set it up on each machine. It installs fine, but I seem to have to add each user individually by email address.

Does anyone know how to automatically populate the list of contacts?

We're using Office 365.

Yep we do and we federate with a few suppliers Capita and the LA. Its great!

If you populate the msRTCSIP-PrimaryUserAddress attribute in AD with the sign in address, as soon as you open Lync it will automatically sign in the user. If you use DirSync just exclude this attribute for the sync or you will get error messages in Office 365.

Thanks

Thanks, very useful.

I'm not sure this problem is worth editing our Active Directory for! We don't use dirsync here at all so i'm not sure how useful it would be anyway.

If you don't use Dirsync you will be ok then.

I just added this process to our account creation scripts. Works a treat for us.

I don't think there is any other way to this.

The only issue we had was staff abusing it to get hold of IT staff, we managed to find the registry entry where we could appear offline but you could talk if you clicked on the name, users didn't know that but IT staff did.
