Hi all,

Whats your opinions of having a gas meter in a server room ?

The only issues I can see is access however the servers are in locked racks and all the data is encrypted :o

I have experience of a Site Team where I have worked breaking into the region of The Server Room on more than one occasion on some pretty weak pretexts.

Needless to say I wasn't happy. How do you feel about your current Site Support Team? [i don't want to suggest that you have cause to doubt your team however from experience this would be a consideration]

HTH.

I don't think there is an issue with premises officers going in, they have keys for everywhere and usually have no interest in server rooms.

You might have a problem with contractors though from e.g. BG as someone needs to keep an eye on them at all times.

That is a fair point, but a gas leak at home is more likely to be spotted than in a locked server room with air conditioning. Plus all extra kit has much more chance of a spark than one well fitted electric meter. I suppose it's the same as a water main running over the racks. Not a big problem, but can be a disaster if a problem develops!
