Hi All,

 

Does anyone know of any good deals setups for 16tb SAN's we are doing our hardware plan for the next 2-3 years.

 

NO SALES CALLS OR PITCHS PLEASE

 

We just want rough prices and details.

I'm very happy with my Nimble CS240G - that gives around 16TB usable space.

The pricing was pretty competitive, too.

If this is part of a virtulisation solution, I'd go for a combined processing-and-storage server, saving you buying separate bits of hardware. If you use VMWare I think their local storage technology is called "virtual SAN", if you use Windows then, if I understand correctly, the way to go about it is to have a volume configured as a Storage Spaces drive on the VM server.

 

If you have the option, a fiber connection to a data centre that provides VMs and storage on demand would be the least effort. That might not be a realistic option where you are (Yorkshire?), and does cost a fair bit. However, hardware, power, cooling, service continuity and so on all become someone else's problem, leaving you to do more useful things at your end than fix server hardware, which might influence your final costings.
