Print service and network drives offline.

Hi peeps!

The network admin is not in today and the drives and printers have gone offline, also i cannot remote into the server to check the problem (am on the server screen).

When i logged onto the server, the screen was black with a flashing dos prompt cursor at the top then it loaded the desktop to reveal the following error "The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000005) occurred in the application at location 0x00235f9e."

Anyone have a clue on how to sort the issue? Got the teachers screwing at me because they assume everything that goes wrong in IT is either the technicians or the admins fault.

 

Not my day, running on a collective 11 hours sleep this week with a banging headache and now this.

Can i haz eduhobnobs? I needz them!

Reboot the server.

I am looking to try and fix the problem though, we restarted it twice yesterday and it does not take long before it messes up again.

Depending on what services you are running on the server, it could be one of many things and will probably be difficult to diagnose quickly which is why I suggested rebooting the server.

 

Check the event logs for anything obvious but there are so many variables when you are running multiple services on a one sever like printer drivers software that you may end up having to move services to another server and rebuild it.

 

Think about when the issue first occurred, did you add a printer, install software, was there a software update etc..? This may help identify what broke it.

Just realised that the software we use for our UPS has cocked up.

Was fixed by a reinstall, cheers!
