All-in-One/Built-in solution for specialist IT suite

We are looking to convert a large storage area into a somewhat 'futuristic' IT suite, with pods that 3 or 4 children can sit at and share the same computer as a bit of an extra curricular/group task toy. We envisioned a large (27") screen (debating touchscreen or not), wireless keyboards and mice, and a small computer. An all-in-one solution would be better but because we're not lacking space the price has to be right. We will be looking to get 8 of these 'pods' in total.

 

We're also looking for some table space, that's probably where you guys can help the most. I walked past a lot of companies that build custom hydraulic tables and all sorts at BETT but I'm not too sure if the price necessarily represents value for money - for a single use suite should we even bother? I will need a somewhat good table if we're to get a couple of children around a single screen though.

 

I know there are a couple of companies that hang around in the edusphere so please PM me if you can work with us or if you have any recommendations (better that have one of these suites yourself) please post below! I would love to know what works best for hardware and software in your situation.

id rethink the wireless keyboard mice bit unless you want to be forever changing batteries and finding which pc goes with which keyboard imo they just don't make sense in a school

Lenovo M93p are nice boxes that mount on back of monitors.

Good point. My reason for wireless is that it would be nice for two people at opposite ends to collaborate without wires tugging etc. but that could probably be avoided with 5 minutes of cable management. I'm just too lazy

you could have one or 2 shared ones in the room to plug in as needed

You could look at the Logitech K750 keyboard and the M705 mouse. The keyboard is solar powered - so charges from the lights in the room and the mouse will run for up to 3 years on one set of batteries.

Curious, have you ever tried the M705 mouse? I purchased one just before the summer but because the laser is positioned near your pinky (subsequently doesn't move very much) it feels like the tracking is completely off. I've actually got a support case open now to get it returned; however you are right my SetPoint gauged over 1000 days of use remaining which is pretty nice.

Just had a chat to the bursar and there are worries about the budget, if I'm going to keep it within reach a suite of Mac's are completely out of the question - although you're right that would be a bit of a 'wow factor' which I think this whole room is going to be about. Shame.

Thanks Stuart, I need to arrange a meeting with the head and will discuss your trial. How does it work exactly? Do we get to use a computer for a couple of days, or do you come in personally? Can it be rebuilt on to our network for actual use?

No problem, you can have the unit for a couple of weeks and do what you want with it, image it, pop it on your network mount it behind a screen, whatever you need to do to give it a good try.

We should be able to ship a unit out to you within 7 days.
