Setting up an internal proxy

Hi,

 

We want to set up our back up ADSL line on to our network.

 

We use SWGFL for our internet. and use a local company for our backup line.

 

All i want to do is take the internet from the netgear ADSL line and connect it to our network. But only by using an internal proxy address.

 

is there a quick and easy way do this? we got a computer with 2 nic's.

Ubuntu server, squid proxy, ufw firewall. Probably won't be quick if you've not done it before but there are loads of docs out there on creating a proxy machine.

Tried a lot of different options to achieve this. In the end I went with PFsense which is free and simple to setup and configure.

so if im right with my thinking...

 

The computer has a onboard lan and a PCI Nic.

 

I connect the onboard nic to the backup ADSL router and connect the PCI nic in to our network.

 

Within pfSence i should be able to set up the onboard nic to connect to the WAN buy setting an ip address on the router (192.168...)

 

Then the lan settings will be our network ip addresss. (The only problem i can see is our VLANS and we have no DCHP where our servers are)

All we want to do is add our backup adsl line to our network. But stick an proxy address on so no one bar 1 or 2 can access it.

I take it there is no firewall/filtering device on site? Was going to say add it as another interface to that and go from there.

I got 1 port set up as the WAN (going to the adsl router)

and the other port going on to our network

You just need to add the squid package from the web interface.

Done that. Keep getting DNS Binding Messages now.

Just turned that off.

 

Im just keep getting asked to log in to pfsense and it display its status,

 

(ive pointed my computers proxy at ip address xxx.xx.xx.xxx and port 80)
