richard.thomas Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Currently I am using IPCop with URLFilter addon to limit access to websites (aswell as our ISP filter- which is rubbish). However, I just can't keep up with the amount of proxy avoidance websites that the kids are finding- What do you lot use to filter what pages the students have access to? What I’m looking for is some sort of content filtering- so something that has abit of intelligence to block pages. I've found DansGuardian however i'm not very familiar with linux and i like my GUIs I've found a DansGuardian addon for SmoothWall which is what I'm currently playing with to see how effective it is... Do you have any other recommendations- What are you using?
CyberNerd Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 I've found DansGuardian however i'm not very familiar with linux and i like my GUIs Very Happy Smoothwall have an excellent product called schoolguardian/corporate guardian. we use it and I recommend 100%. it has a GUI webinterface thingy. that is easy to use (although the latest version corporate guardian changed a bit from the last). Schoolguardian is based on dansduardian.

pmassingham Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Content Keeper. Used for 4 years. Every URL is either classified within a range of groups which can be open or blocked, or Non Managed - in which case it remains blocked until I am asked to 'manage' it. I have total control. Real time activity viewing, report production, LDAP group filtering, download blocking - the list is (almost) endless. Sits on a Linux box which is provided as part of the package. Brilliant product.
