Electric piano 5 pin MIDI out to speakers - How?

This is a bit of a weird problem (well for me at least). We have been given a very expensive Doepfler LMK4+ keyboard for my daugthers keyboard (now piano) lessons but are scratching out heads just as to the best way to get it connected to speakers as it only has 5 pin midi outputs.

Is there a direct way I can connect this to say a set of PC speakers via adaptors, or do we have to do it via a 5 pin midi to USB and laptop configuration?

This is quite new to me so before I splash out on anything I'd rather find out exactly what I need first.

That sounds like it's just a midi controller rather than a full blown electronic keyboard. In which case you need a midi instrument to make the actual noise, and latency may be an issue...

As others have said it is just a controller Keyboard (athough a feature packed one) it basically means that it has no built in sounds and will require a sound module to produce the sound

 

the module sits in between the keyboard and the speakers, a laptop can be used but imo latency may be an issue especially for learners...

 

a cheap(ish) module will sound good for what she needs and should also allow for different sounds if she ever wants to make it sound different

Worth looking for a GM (General midi) module on eBay, should be quite cheap now as most keyboards have them built in.

Thanks all. The KB isn't that old but does seem to require a general midi box. Will start bidding on one now as they seem thin on the ground for inexpensive new ones!

However for ultracheap you could use any midi adapter and a PC/laptop to produce the sounds: E-mu Midi 2x2
