Cheapest solution for 3 screen setup

As title, need a cheap solution for 2 screens + projector. The screens have vga and dvi and the projector has hdmi and vga. The PC has an i3 onboard and uses the igpu, mobo has dvi and vga out. I was thinking of a discrete card but not sure which to go for or if they are compatible with using onboard + discrete at the same time (I guess this depends on the mobo more than anything)

I run 3 monitors from my Main PC, and have done for a while now (about 3 years and 3/4 PC's). The only real solution I have found is an ATI graphics card with eyefinity as its the only thing I've found that truly support 3 monitors.

I have tried running 3 monitors using the On-board Card + Discrete, but as you say, this largely depends on the Motherboard.

I have tried it with 2 separate Graphics cards too.

 

I've found neither of these to be reliable options in the end.

 

I assume that you need the 3 outputs to be different?

If you're using a tower PC then get something like an NVS44 Card. Will offer you four discrete vga screens. If you're using a small form factor then a pair of NVS300 Low profile cards will do the trick. Here in the office I'm using an SFF HP 8000 with 1 x NVS300 x16 and 1 x NVS300 x1 card to get my three 1080p screens playing nicely together.

 

Cost wise you're looking about £30 for the 440 and £15 each for the 300's

An ATI card with eyeinfinity will make it happen for about £120. I have 3 27" monitors at work but cant remember the card I have at the moment.

I got a nvs440 for my techie - a three screen pressie. Works a treat, cards are awesome.
