plexer Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I've just installed the new software platform and done the demo test but just had a conversation with the exams officer over the running of the tests. She will do the registration of candidates and allocating tests but then expects me to start the tests, invigilate and then close down the tests. How is everyone else handling this? I don't see it as part of my remit to do this just to provide tech support to the testing platform. Ben
pallen Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 This was looked at last year, when I refused to do anything more than install the software for other peoples use. I am paid as an IT Technician, that does not cover invigilating exams. It is up to the exams officer to find invigilators and any other requirements for these exams. I think it specifies somewhere that someone needs to have technical knowledge in case anything goes wrong during the exam, and that this person can also run the tests themselves. But it does not have to be 1 person who does it all, it just saves money if this can be done as it requires less staff. The person who was trying to set this up has left and no one has taken the task over yet. I wait to see what happens but I will not be invigilating exams.
gwendes Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I handled this for an outside group that came to use our centre. Not only did I set it up, I dealt with every aspect of these exams and barely got a thank you. I even wrote up a guide on how to book in the exams and register students for the person that was supposed to be responsible (she requested) and it was ignored when the resits came round. Only a couple of kids passed a meaningless exam - I know this isn't FFS but I HATE these tests - put your foot down or we'll turn into TAs to cover when teachers are off munching buffet food in some 'meeting' To clarify - uninstall and run.
plexer Posted November 13, 2007 Author Posted November 13, 2007 I don't have a problem with the platform it's installed easily enough so far. The previous version was easier, for that I did set up all the users and tests but then I just printed of the slips for the pupils and these were given to the head of maths or head of english and the tests were done. Afterwards I uploaded the results and fed back the info. This was simple, but with the new platform you have to unlock the tests for the kids that turn up etc.. Why not just unlock them all and anyone that doesn't take the test doesn't get charged. Ben
Sylv3r Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I tended to be their at the start of the test and come back for the end to retrieve the results.
forcryingoutloud Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 We ran these earlier on this year. I did the same, just start the exam off and retrieve the results. We had an invigilator in to sit with them and made the Teckkies available.
Joanne Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 invigilating is on my job description... (ICT Technician). Oh my.
