Replacement for Sophos

I took over a very small ICT Services team in a local boarding special needs school in December last year. They already had Sophos Antivirus, Email and Firewall Protection in place which is supported at the web appliance end by a third party.

 

We have had continuing issues with regard to network speed, Skype dropouts and trying to run Dragon Dictate on iPADs through the firewall and have come to the conclusion that Sophos is probably not flexible enough for our future needs and possibly resource hungry. We tested Sophos UTM last week, but still can't get the iPADs to work through the firewall using configuration settings recommended in posts online. Our supplier has put forward Watchguard vUTM as a potential solution but I have no knowledge of this product.

 

We are paying just over £4k annually for our solution (350 users or 300 PCs including BYOD for children).

 

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of solutions that could meet our requirements and recommendations? Thanks very much.

We have lightspeed for our filtering and then use End Point Protection for our AV on our workstations. No issues at all. Used to use Smoothwall as our filtering but had no end of trouble with iPads. Edited August 12, 2014 by Sam_Brown

It will be the web appliance that's the issue not the rest of the Sophos suite. Replace this with a better web filter such a lightspeed or smoothwall
