Copying Permissions Between Users

Hi All,

 

I need to replicate 1 user's shared folder permissions to another user i.e. I want user b to have the same access rights to the same folders as user a.

Well, done correctly you have set the ACLs on a group, not direct to the user, so you should just add user 2 to the same groups.

 

If you didn't now would be a great opportunity to fix your ACLs so you are using groups...

Yes, well in the case I have not done that, hence why I am asking the question. Thanks for stating the obvious!!

Are you talking about a users home directory or a shared resource folder for multiple users?

 

I don't think You will not be able to copy permissions to a different user because each user has a unique SID, it would have to be done manually.

 

As @MordyT said the best thing to do is base permissions to shared resource folders on groups, this way if some one leaves you are not left with a SID on the permissions additionally if some one else needs permissions you just add them to the group and you don't need to worry about effecting existing permissions.

 

If you have not used groups for shared resources then it would be best to do this as you have the opportunity to to do now.

In that case, use this as an opportunity to set up groups. It sucks, yes, but it needs to be done.
