Michael Gove is to leave education and become Commons chief whip, according to the PM's Twitter feed. sonofsanta Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Unless Michael Gove shuffles off this mortal coil, I can't think of anywhere else I'd want him shuffled to. I don't trust him with anything. The man has woollen ears and listens to nothing, yet has some sort of incredible ego-shield wherein he cannot comprehend of people disagreeing with him. Hague is probably the minister I've had the least grief with in this Cabinet, actually - not sad, but disappointed to see him go, of all of them.

localzuk Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Rather worrying that they've moved the current Defence Secretary to be Foreign Secretary, not to mention there's also talk of Liam Fox (the guy who was kicked out for basically being corrupt) coming back in from the cold. On the positive side, Owen Patterson, bastion of anti-science/climate change denial thinking, has been given the boot and replaced by Elizabeth Truss. She doesn't appear to have any qualifications relevant to the position at all though, so she's a bit of a wildcard. No mention of anything happening with Jeremy Hunt and the health role though.

But marriage, to me, is between a man and a woman. Seems strange to me that an equalities minister would vote against gay marriage "because Jesus", when the other part of her job [Minister for Women] is in opposition with her beliefs. Difficult to make much of her voting record beyond "whipped Tory" for the most part, although she seems strongly in favour of academies and devolving power to schools - though I don't know how much of that is whipped. "The new education secretary, Nicky Morgan, does not respond to questions about whether she will "make peace" within education following Michael Gove's package of reforms."

Against helping the disabled/ill. And Jesus H Christ... that tax section. More tax for everyone, except bankers and the rich. Also: Voted very strongly for ending financial support for some 16-19 year olds in training and further education Voted very strongly for university tuition fees And she's now the education minister?! It looks like the majority of her decisions have been to help the rich and punish the poor for being poor. [Can't get full details, it's erroring.] All in all... I dislike this woman.

I dislike this woman. isnt that pretty much average tory though tbh cant tax bankers or the rich because they are people we know / user to be / will be when they get bored of politics/relateed to etc

Haha I, for one, am surprised "Chief Whip" is a real position. I thought people were just giving his new position a sarcastic comedy name.

StevieM Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 What I don't understand about cabinet ministers is that very few of them have ever had any experience in the area of which they have responsibility. They have romantic ideals about what they would like to see happening, but absolutely no understanding of what actually happens in real life. Perhaps the next Speaker of the House, should be someone who has never worked in politics. PS I've just put a notice about Gove on the staffroom board... and a big smile on our DH's face!
