That's a pretty decent price for a 500Gb SSD drive and less than I paid for my current 80Gb Intel SSD 5 years ago!

I have one of these (paid much more for it), it's a fantastic bit of kit.

I paid ~£330 for mine 18 months ago I think. It's brilliant. The quid core i7 MacBook with 16gb is probably overkill for web browsing

 

(But quick for handbrake)

Even cheaper: Crucial CT512MX100SSD1 512GB MX100 for £145

 

We've been getting the MX100's here for a few weeks since their release, as they're cheaper than the 840 EVOs at the moment (and all the Crucial m4s we've had have been flawless). Really, really happy with them so far - cracking performance, and dem prices

@sonofsanta, will be interesting to see how they go in the long run, I haven't heard great things about Crucial SSD's. Definitely not had an issue?

 

Would have bought the Samsung EVO SSD for my new rig but need to sell my Alienware first!

Too early to tell with the MX100s, but we've had 100 Crucial M4s in the IT rooms for two years now and never had a one of them fail (we have, for the record, had a Samsung fail from a similar size pool). Crucial, similar to Samsung, are vertically integrated and make all their own NAND (under Micron), so they tend to be better quality than the likes of Kingston etc. that shop around for the cheapest memory they can find.

 

We've been buying the 840 EVO's for the last year or two and these MX100s feel similarly fast. I'll buy whichever of them is cheapest at the time and be happy either way, I reckon. Until the 850 EVO comes out with 40nm TLC V-NAND, anyway

I've had my 128GB Crucial M4 for approaching three years. It's been an outstanding little performer paired with a regular HDD, and I'm sorely tempted to buy one of the 500+GB drives to replace it. I just want the prices to come down a little further...
