Does anyone know which remote support application work through the LGfL firewall?

We currently use teamviewer which is fine for the majority of schools, but we do find it patchy when working with schools connected to LGfL.

Depends on whether you are on LGFL 1 or 2. There is a contractor VPN on LGFL 1. They don't like to tell people about that though. For LGFL2 there are more options. Atomwide have a document about it, but you need to be a nominated contact to get hold of it.

Your best bet is to talk to atomwide if you want a permanent solution. It will probably need to be set up by each school. You will probably have to communicate via a nominated contact, they don't talk to normal human beings.

Most remote desktop systems are blocked by default on LGFL.

Get RD Gateway setup at each school, that way the grid network lot only have to deal with opening up one nice standard port of 443 and you can pipe remote desktop via it to any machines you specify on the internal network.

You can ask the school if they will allow Category 2 remote access tools. This means they would need OTP tags (first ones are free to Nominated contacts) and the HT would need to read something and sign it off to say they are happy. The school can then open up what ever remote access tool you use.

LGFL also have an Enterprise Logmein tool but this will cost you to set up.
