Exchange 2010 Uninstall

Hoping someone can help me. We have recently migrated all our mailboxes from an on-site Exchange 2010 server to Office 365 cloud. I now need to completely uninstall Exchange 2010 from on-premises ensuring that all active directory entries etc are also removed correctly. The issue is we have 2 servers with Exchange on them:

 

1. Hub transport/client access

2. Edge transport

 

The edge transport server has been playing up and is no longer joined to the domain. I have tried rejoining it but due to corruption this does not appear possible.

 

Is it enough to just unistall the main Exchange server with the hub transport role on it and will this deal with all relevant AD entries?

You may need to look at doing a cleanup using ADSI edit to get rid of some of the old entries. We had to do this when installing Exchange 2013 - there were some ancient entries for Exchange 2000 that had never been removed (and Exchange hadn't been used in the interim). Using guides online, I located everything and wiped it manually.

Thankyou for your reply. I feared it may be a little more complex then a simple uninstall. Obviously it is good practice to ensure AD is cleared up after unistalling Exchange which I will endeavour to do however what potential issues could I face later if entries I miss are still stuck deep within AD?

There is no need to worry about the edge transport server. It doesn't put anything into AD. It doesn't use AD. In fact it is recommended you do not put it on the domain and have it in your DMZ. Edited June 29, 2014 by FN-GM
