SamElphick Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 We find that the most popular for primary schools are the 3D Printing Pen, which are suitable for children aged 8 years plus, however there are also the larger 3D printers available that enable a much detailed 3D output!
SYNACK Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Still have not managed to convince any to get one, they are still hung up on their unfulfilled 1990's dreams of the teachers teaching everyone - including themselves - robotics with the lego mindstorms stuff that has only made it out of the packet once or twice. If you manage to convince them please share your methods.
pcstru Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I struggle to see that a 3d printer would be suitable for a primary school, unless you are a real enthusiast. There are some printers that are supposedly 'plug and play' but the difficulty comes if (when!) something goes wrong. The difference between a blob of plastic and a print with fine detail can be very small. The problems that can crop up are numerous.

plexer Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 PLA is great to print with anyway plus all sorts of other awesome materials ninjaflex, pva, laywood etc.... Get 2 of the simple bots rather than one makerbot mini. Ben

I've been asked to look in to purchasing a 3D Systems Cube X Trio printer. Anyone who supplies the printer only does so with a 90 day warranty and there isn't an option to purchase any extended support. So I was hoping to get an idea of what others are using in secondary schools.

The trouble is at the moment is there are literally hundreds of companies doing 3d printers. Ben 1

If I had my way we wouldn't be buying such a device as I personally think at present it's a you for the department and nothing less. Did a quick calculation for the Trio printer and to allow all students in KS4 one print at maximum size it would cost almost the same as the device in materials. I just don't get it but need to research the right device so I don't get blamed for picking the wrong one when it doesn't get used.
