Migrating Hyper-V 2008 R2 to Hyper-V 2012 R2

I am getting ready to upgrade Hyper-V 2008 R2 to Hyper-V 2012 R2.

 

I have tried it on a test domain with one Hyper-V 2008 R2 Server that had 4 VM's and everything went very smoothly.

 

My real infrastructure has 3 Hyper-V 2008 R2 Servers in a Failover Cluster utilising a SAN. This is where my concerns are, I know without the failover everything upgrades fine but has anyone upgraded Hyper-V with the same configuration? My thoughts are to shut down all my VMs and then upgrade one Hyper-V at a time and then once all Hyper-V are upgraded bring the VMs back online.

 

I would be really interested to hear your thoughts
