techie08 Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Hi Everyone Since I upgraded SQL from 2008 to 2012 on the SIMS server, SIMS has been really slow. Reports are taking forever to run and sometimes come up with and error. There is 14gb RAM in the server (2008R2) and SQL has been capped at 8gb (6gb Minimum) Has anyone else had slowness since the SQL upgrade? Thanks
matt40k Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Stupid question, you uninstalled\disabled SQL 2008? Might be worth applying the reindexing patch.
techie08 Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 Yep, definatly disabled SQL 2008 service. Not uninstalled though
techie08 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 Apart from the 10gb database limit with 2012 SQL express, is there any other limitations for RAM or CPU? Capita said there isn't but I just want to clarify? Thanks
teejay Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Apart from the 10gb database limit with 2012 SQL express, is there any other limitations for RAM or CPU? Capita said there isn't but I just want to clarify? Thanks Yes there are, see here - Features Supported by the Editions of SQL Server 2012
matt40k Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 (edited) is there any other limitations for RAM or CPU? Capita said there isn't but I just want to clarify? Ha! 1GB RAM and 1 CPU (max of 4 cores) EDIT: Like @teejay said Edited June 19, 2014 by matt40k teejay is too quick
techie08 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 so where they have been getting me to increase the RAM on the server (and up the SQL cap) will have made no difference?
teejay Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 No 1 lesson to learn, do your own research, don't rely on what companies say without checking from other sources:p
matt40k Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Depends, if it's a dedicated SIMS server, pretty much yes. Utter waste. With SQL, disc is often king. Have you run the reindexing patch? What size is the sims.LDF?
techie08 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 Its on its own server as a VM. ldf is 149,660kb and mdf is 5gb As for research I read through all the Capita articles which only seemed to mention the 10gb database limit! Other articles only mention the 1gb RAM limit for the buffer pool. Also re ran the indexing patch.
PotNoodleTech Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 If your database is 5GB sounds like your a decent sized secondary. You MUST upgrade from the express edition as the limitations as mentioned above will mean your SIMS will run likea dog permanently.
Ex-MGSTech Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Do you use SENSO? https://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/237897-sims-slow-load-excruciating-across-three-different-schools.html

Koldov Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Holy necro thread Batman! Probably still relevant if it's about SIMS though...
ITGuyNW Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Dude this is a 10 year old thread lol. There's me thinking 10 years ago was like 2007
PotNoodleTech Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Gotta be the longest necro ever? Does the poster get a prize?
