Badaz52 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Hi, We have a HP Storageworks AiO1200, it came pre-installed with Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 which we have been using for many years. With the need to utilise additional features with our backup software we need to have a 64 bit operating system installed. I have carried out some research on the processors that are installed in this server and they are Intel Xeon 3070 2.66GHz which are 64 bit processors. I was thinking of uninstalling storage server 2003 r2 and installing windows server 2008 r2, firstly would this work changing from a storage server OS to a standard/enterprise and secondly as the original OS is OEM will it even let me format and re-install windows? We use backup exec 2012 as our backup software. Thanks
Ephelyon Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 We did the same thing with our one of those before it was retired. It will run Win2K8 R2 x64 perfectly fine. @Bradlys can confirm as he's got it now!
Badaz52 Posted June 13, 2014 Author Posted June 13, 2014 Great stuff, because I would be moving away from storage server to say standard or enterprise, how would this affect the RAIDs that are already setup on the unit? will the SAN just be supported as normal?
Bradlys Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I can confirm it works beautifully, I run it as a test environment. Occasionally I boot it up (Even though it sounds like a jet ) And mess around. My main use for it is testing things before I push them on the works smaller server. But, still, it works perfectly 1
Ephelyon Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Assuming you've done something like first two disks in their own mirrored "boot/system" array, remainder as a RAID5 "storage" array, and that's set up in hardware (i.e. on the RAID controller), not software (i.e. in Windows), it should be fine. Actually... Cheshire... AiO1200 which was a standard part of County's big rollout going back several years... and looking at age... we probably know each other!
