mojojojo Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Hi, I hope someone will be able to help or at least give a few suggestions. Recently students have been having issues with IE. When they click the shortcut, multiple windows pop up and they have to close every window then reopen IE in order to type anything in the search bar. We know it's not a case of the students being impatient and constantly clicking the shortcut if its slow to start up. It doesn't seem to occur all the time on the computers but it seems to be 'spreading' and affecting more computers. We have ran antivirus scans just in case but they are coming up clean. Student's are starting to get frustrated so we are trying to find out the cause. thanks in advance!
Tesla Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 recieved this from our internet filter company recently All - please be aware - in case this is affecting your school Google/IE issues. We have been investigating the recent issues affecting the Internet Explorer range of browsers when using Google search. We are fairly certain now that the problems have arisen because of security updates issued by Microsoft last Tuesday. These updates have affected the way the enforced redirect from Google's “Secure Search” to standard http search is handled. Protex cannot filter Secure Search at all as this is run over https so this redirect to http is crucial. In particular, the initial search response in IE10/11 is what appears to be a blank page but with an alert at the bottom of the window saying “Only secure content it displayed (What's the risk ) Show all content - click that and the results are displayed”. When the link is clicked the http search results are displayed and all subsequent searches behave as expected for the remainder of the session. A change in the IE9 security update appears be causing multiple windows to be opened on the redirect in certain circumstances. This mainly appears when the browser home page has been set to Google's home page. In order to fix this we have had to remove the blocking of Google's “auto-suggestions” in the search bar. We will reinstate this feature as soon as we have a fix which is compatible with IE9. However, please note the Google are no longer (since Oct 2013) supporting IE9 so schools would be well advised to update their Internet Explorer versions. If schools continue to experience IE9 issues with Google search then another possible workaround is to change the homepage in the browser configuration to https://www.google.co.uk Note that these are IE specific issues and other browsers are working as expected. 1
