Windows 8 OEM Disc

Trying to repair a HP Pavilion g6, no repair or backup discs were created and it wouldn't boot into recovery etc

Does anyone know where I could get hold of a disc that will allow me to reinstall windows 8 and activate it successfully? I did get a windows 8 iso downloaded and installed but it wouldn't activate with the original product key.

If you want to use the original product key then you'll need the original disk that was used to install it - even some OEM disks are made in batches that only support certain product keys so even if you went and found an OEM version on eBay there's no gaurantee it will work.

 

If you have downloaded a VLK version in ISO format from the Microsoft Volume Licensing Center then that type of disc/ISO will only work with your VLK/KMS keys which is why your OEM key doesnt work with it as it's a VLK version not OEM version.

This thread has several download links. Don't bother with Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 ISOs. Download "Windows 8.1 with Update" instead since it will save you hours when it comes to updating the OS.

Thanks Arthur. I stumbled across the same thread this morning and got the correct version (core) downloaded, installed and activated.

The owner had a broken copy of windows 8 pro installed and I wasted a lot of time installing a fresh copy of pro and trying to get it activated
