wsus 2008 server will not download the wsus updates

our wsus 2008 server will not download the wsus updates, any ideas.

Manual sync ? Are you behind a proxy ?

Any more information?? Are you behind a proxy? Do you sync from an upstream server (ISP's?) Have you set automatic approvals? Do you get any error messages? Has it worked before and has now stopped?

have done manual sync and no proxy, however did have to move the content folder to other drive on the same server due to lack of disc space.

Is the new folder location D:\WSUS\WsusContent ? Or is that the old place?

How did you repoint WSUS to the new location? The official method is:

 

1. Create a new content directory on another drive.

 

2. Locate the WSUSUtil.exe utility in the Tools directory of your WSUS installation (typically C:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools).

 

3. Open a command window, navigate to the Tools directory, and type the following:

 

4. wsusutil movecontentNewContentPathMoveLog

 

5. where NewContentPath is the new content directory, and MoveLog is the path and filename of the log for this operation.

correct, i also had to go into iss to correct the content path from c: D: as this did not change as part of the proceess

If the above didnt work - I'd remove the service and start again.

clients are downloading updates however the server is not

I have had endless issues with WSUS although at the moment this seems to be working quite well.

 

In this instance it sounds like the WSUS sever cannot retrieve the updates/synchronise with windows update. This first thing I would check is connectivity to windows update, are you connecting via a proxy? If so then try bypassing the proxy directly through your firewall (http 80 and https 443 ports required) and see if this resolves your issue. Depending on your proxy/firewall check your logs to see if any traffic is being blocked either by firewall/proxy rules or any IPS you may have running.
