6Foot2 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Link: 6.4 million UK adults have never used the Internet | ITProPortal.com That figure seems quite high to me. However my parents are two individuals who make up that estimated 6.4 million so I guess I shouldn't be so surprised...
tmcd35 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I don't think that figure is too surprising. Although the number of silver surfers are on the increase, I bet tha vast majority of that 6.4m are over 50. About 10m people in the UK are over 65 (The ageing population - UK Parliament) and you can easily add another 10m between 50 and 65. Or to put it another way (if all 6.4m are over 50): 1/4 over 50's have never used the internet, 3/4 have. (very approx. top of my head, early morning maths)
ICTDirect_Dave Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Yeah I'm not overly surprised at this figure actually. As we're pushing 70million people in the UK now, less than 10% having not used the internet seems about right, especially, as has been mentioned above, you could account for most of this with the older generations who have had less exposure. And then there's my mum. She's just plain scared of it!
