Sheridan Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) There seems to be a bug with Chrome on Windows 7 - although no policies are defined its picking up the system proxy as its proxy which works. But when I changed the system proxy (i.e by changing the settings in IE) chrome continues to use the old settings. I've verified this by watching the logs - change the proxy in IE and it switches over, but chrome continues to use the original setting - and the option to change it is disabled. Anyone know where chrome hides this setting, as I need to find out why something isn't working through our smoothwall box and I have to test it through a different proxy? Edit: Nice little bug this - if you ever change your proxy settings, looks like chrome has to be uninstalled and reinstalled! Edited May 14, 2014 by Sheridan
pete Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I've seen the "Chrome has decided to ignore IE settings, but will pick them up if you launch IE and then Chrome" issue, but not your particular one.
free780 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I've seen that firefox doesn't update the proxy exceptions if copying from ie. Had to resort to a pac file.
Sheridan Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 Yup, chrome here will ONLY use the proxy settings that were in force when it was installed. No matter where you change them it retains those details. I've tested this on a variety of PCs now and it remains the same.
woreilly Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Download the Google Chrome ADM/ADMX files from: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/187202?hl=en Import into Group Policy and now you have all the policy settings you need to control Chrome centrally 1
mrhcarlin Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Thought I'd chime in here as it seems similar to an issue we're having with Chrome. We use Smoothwall and are also having issues with Chrome authenticating when we set it via Chrome GPO to pull from system proxy. If you run Chrome on login, you get "Access denied: authentication configuration missing", but running IE beforehand gets around this issue for some reason. Reinstalling Chrome doesn't seem to work, nor does setting manual proxy in Chrome GPO. There is an "Authentication server whitelist" policy but adding our Smoothwall IP and the name server doesn't seem to get around it either. Advice appreciated!
sven Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 You should try using the Group Policy templates for Chrome.
Firefox Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 When installing Chrome it asks you if you want to import settings from IE...this is obviously a point in time import, so no future changes in IE get "replicated" to Chrome. As others have mentioned, the Chrome GPO's can be used to configure these.
