[windows software] Windows 7 Starter - do we need to upgrade it?

Afternoon Folks

 

Ok, so I know that Home Premium and all the jazz is a no no in schools and businesses and it should be Pro upwards that is installed, however, a new school has a suite of netbooks all running Windows 7 Starter Edition. Do the same rules apply? Does the school need to be looking to upgrade them all to a Windows 7 Pro installation or are they ok as they are?

They don't have a domain at the moment, so there's no real need to upgrade to Pro for any domain benefits, it's more a legal thing of "can the school use Windows 7 Starter Edition?" Thanks

However, would it not be best to future proof... are they ever going to be part of a domain ? if so you may need to go pro anyway.

At the moment, the school doesn't have the money and they're not used to their full potential. They are looking at new server options, but to be honest, even with education pricing, it will probably remain at a Linux level for now with shares and possibly LDAP for the staff who have their own laptops with Pro on anyway.
