rush_tech Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Morning we are looking to replace our ageing HP 4650 Colour laser. I've been looking at Ricoh C430DN and a couple of Kyocera models. What would you recommend?
MatthewL Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Kyocera seem to be well built and we'll prices, not sure on running costs but don't expect them to be too bad.
Bananas Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 We've got a couple of Kyocera colour lasers, bomb proof, no drum to change. We buy 3rd party toners from a local company and they last forever despite being in a busy IT room we are unlucky if we get through one set of toners a year. The printer shows empty (by page count presumably) but just keeps on going and going.
themightymrp Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Add another to the Kyocera lovers We use a FS-C5150DN model in a variety of rooms. Very cheap to run, easy to replace toners etc. We moved to these after using the HP CP3525's, we HALVED the running costs!
rush_tech Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 Cheers for the replies guys we had a couple of the kyocera's a while ago and we had nothing but trouble with them but we were using compatible toners, maybe I'll try them with the original toners
themightymrp Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Admittedly, we use originals. It could be that compats are not up to much?
Bananas Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 We've had no bother at all with compatible ones, try a different brand?
localzuk Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 I'm a fan of Brother printers myself. We've had Brother, HP, Samsung, Epson and Ricoh here over the last 8 years, and in terms of price to run and reliability the Brother machines are in a league of their own. Steer clear of Samsung, we've had nothing but trouble with them. Epson are great for covering you in toner every time you swap a cartridge. HP are my second choice. So, of the current ones, I'd go for the HL-4570CDWT for a colour machine of that sort of size.
Ian_Cooper_Printware Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Add another to the Kyocera lovers We use a FS-C5150DN model in a variety of rooms. Very cheap to run, easy to replace toners etc. We moved to these after using the HP CP3525's, we HALVED the running costs! The FS-C5150 went EOL a few months ago and has now been replaced by the P6021. Handily they use the same toners, which is great if you want to keep things uniform. It may be worth paying a little extra and going for the P6026 (has replaced the fs-c5250) as they have bigger toners and work out about 25% cheaper to run. One of the great things about Kyocera is that even using original toners your running costs should be pretty similar to using a reputable compat in an equivalent HP device. Regarding the ceramic drums; they do have a maximum life, but they have good warranties (exact details will be at the end of the printer data sheet). When they do go it's often cheaper to replace the printer.
Bananas Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Got to agree I do love the kyocera stuff, not had a bad one yet so so cheap to run too.
HTCPCP Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Big fan here on the Kyocera front too. Got some older and newer models (not one of the current range, but one of 'last years' models through a supplier a couple of months ago with a massive saving). So far they do seem a lot more reliable than the HP bunch we had before. All depends though on what you are using it for though. At one school I work at we have got rid of nearly all the individual printers, and replaced them all with 8 MFPs and (despite printing actually going up) overall costs based on what just our budget and for departments who bought through us is down.
mdrabble Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I'm the other way with Kyocera, had a couple of issues with drivers which put me off a little but when I eventually got them working, they seemed fine. Brother printers - Love them we have different mono versions and colour versions and staff have no issues with them.
synaesthesia Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Running Kyocera 5400/5350s here and finding them reliable and very cheap to run. Small issue with firmware when a couple first went in but a) engineer came out and resolved those really quickly and professionally and b) haven't had it on anything bought since.
