Hi all,

One of the vendors I have worked with in the past (Enterasys) has just been acquired by Extreme. I always liked Enterasys and their tech but I've never worked with Extreme and am obviously a little nervous with the acquisition.

Can anyone give me some feedback on Extreme in terms of tech and also support and service please.

Cheers!

I've got a friend who does network and server roll outs. He went to one of their boot camps to learn more about their network gear and came out vowing never to use their hardware in a production network. Their switches use some sort of embedded Linux instead of doing the switching in hardware. Unstable and hard to setup according to him.

I have extreme switches provided by lan3. I've found the switches to be great, better than my last hp setup. And the support from lan3 has been great too. They use the same os in all their switches so if you can use one you can use them all. You do really need to know the cli though, is pretty similar to hp and Cisco.

Extreme are used in some pretty large high capacity deployments so if the core product was an issue I would imagine it wouldn't be used were it is.
