The SEN teacher is using a program called Get Writing on her brand spanking new laptop, in conjunction with her very old Smartboard running Smart 11.

The program has powerpoints with boxes drawn for the children to write in but when they try to do it on the Smartboard, the writing goes behind the box as soon as you lift your pen off the board.

You cannot send the box to the back or anything.

Has anyone come across this? I have run all updates on the Smartboard - can it not cope with 11 or does anyone have a solution

Please

I may be barking up the wrong tree completely, but have you tried writing on it with the pen tool which is embedded into Powerpoint? This may work?

I have only ever had experience with Promethean ActivBoards, but I am guessing that you can still use the Pens on a SmartBoard as a mouse as is the case with an ActivBoard?

Is it Read Write Inc Get Writing by any chance? We've had the same issue even when using SMART boards which are only 2/3 years old. It seems to be the way the ink layers work now. From memory, there is a grey drop-down box towards the top right-hand corner of the screen and this needs to be changed from Microsoft Ink to Smart Ink.

Hi @kaphc

When you say a grey drop down box - what am I in to see it? Am I in Read Write inc or what? Do I need to install an earlier version of Smart too do you think?

I'll have a look tomorrow. Let's hope I can fix it and the SEN teacher will stop SIGHING :)

@kaphc and anyone else

I reset the smart ink settings and it worked for me as admin (thank you) but not for a staff member even though the setting was changed.

Can anyone help me as to how to get it to stay in front?

Not sure on the different users issue but I will have a look this afternoon when I'm at my school which had exactly the same issue. As far as I remember, I showed the users how to change this themselves. I'll check and get back to you.

Just had another look at this. I reckon it will be down to which version of Microsoft Powerpoint you are running alongside SMART Notebook 11. We have Office Pro Plus 2010 installed here and that is loads a SMART-Ink add-in when Powerpoint is launched. That's the intergration that then brings up the ink layers box in the top right-hand corner.

Which version of Powerpoint do you have? And which version 11 of SMART notebook?

This Edugeek thread. suggests upgrading to verion 11.3 of SMART Notebook . And it also shows how to enable the SMART Ink plugin for Powerpoint here - if your staff user can't get the settings to stay could it be a permissions issue?

I have 11.1 (put a lower version on today) and Office 2010 so I dont know why I dont get the smart ink add on boxy thing

IF I can get to the room with the board and laptop tomorrow I will have a go at the instructions and see what happens.

Thanks for finding those links - I did search but couldnt see anything relevant :)
