DanW Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Hi, i'm looking for some OCR software, i've had a quote from Omnipage and not over impressed with the price that they have given me. does anyone here have any recommendations.. Thanks in advance Dan
paulhyman Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 The best one i have used was called ABBYY FineReader. It is very good at sorting out images and tables. Not sure on the price tho.

Thanks in advance Dan omnipage/omniport and Kofax VRS and ReadIRIS pro are the best on a budget. Kofax VRS in particular is a very good product. If you buy an hp document scanner you get all of these bundled (the kofax software is oem'ed so you won't get some of the advance features of the full product). If you've got a filenet P8 installation (which is highly unlikely), filenet capture is the best of all - but that really is high end stuff. Out of reach for all but the deepest pockets.
john Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I've used Abbeey and its good, but people keep telling me that XP Has a built in one, but i've yet to find it :s
Ric_ Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I've found that the OCR software bundled with Office has always given acceptable results although I've never needed to maintain complex layouts.
