cpjitservices Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Hi all, openSUSE.org I'm usually a big fan of Fedora, but I've gotten a bit bored of it lately so decided to go to something different that I haven't used in a long time. I've chosen OpenSuse. I have installed it on my Vaio, I'm quite impressed with the latest KDE... It's fast! More so than Fedora or Ubuntu. Installing things is no hassle through Yast, not had any dependency issues etc. Everything is 'just' working straight out of the box! But I'm amazed by it's speed, with have all effects turned on too! A breeze to install which is always good, my battery seems to be lasting anywhere between 2 and 3 hours. On Windows 7 Ultimate with full screen brightness my battery lasted about 30-45 minutes. Looks like I'll be staying with Suse for a little while longer, not sure I was going to like it but it's been spot on so far!
ConradJones Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I've been using Suse for years. love it....... yast is epic for configuration and it runs in a console over ssh Now this might be concidence but i upgraded a vm 12.3 to 13.1 ------ file system corruption within a week. and then built a new vm and again file system corruption with in a few days....... it might have been the hosts fault. just be aware of it in case something weird happens and let me know if it does..... Fedora was too buggy for my liking. but i didn't really look at it much ..

ConradJones Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I wonder if the VDA guest driver is broken in 13.1, the vms that break are kvm guests. i created some vmware guests and they don't break.
cpjitservices Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 @ConradJones - not had any problems here - except for it can be a little slow booting and getting to the desktop but once she's there she's great!! Not had any problems on my Vaio at all.
tmcd35 Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 SuSE has been my "goto" distro for years. Just decided to return to the Linux fold recently and put 12.3 on my laptop. Loved it! Unfortunately I couldn't get it to run Banshee satisfactualy so it was replaced by a 32bit Ubuntu. Must say I like the new Ubuntu, but I'd prefer KDE 4 over Unity. More important though, Ubuntu runs Banshee just fine and my MP3 collection is saved 1
ConradJones Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Turned out to be an iffy sata lead...... PHPMyadmin is broken though...... install it using yast and then download the latest tarball and drop the contents in /srv/www/htdocs/phpMyAdmin

More important though, Ubuntu runs Banshee just fine and my MP3 collection is saved SUSE is my goto for servers especially LAMP stacks. i tend to use mint with KDE for desktops. that might suit you (sir).
ConradJones Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 they have fixed the yast/ncurses bug. which meant you had to reboot at least once after installation or the yast curses display was garbage
