Flight Simulator computers

Im after some advice from anyone that uses flight simulator,

 

Ive been asked to scratch build a computer to handle flight simulator but not sure on what to get,

 

So if anyone can let me know what you have or could suggest a spec?

 

The computer will be used to run graphics and will need three graphics cards or one that can handle three different outputs.

 

apart from that any ideas?

When I was stationed at RAF Lyneham in the early 70s, we used to get people bringing their domestic appliances for repair. We could order any part as long as it was in the manuals that covered the equipment we maintained. If we needed a part we couldn't get, we used to go over to the C130 simulator section. They used everything.

Depends which Flight Sim software you are going to use.

 

If it's FSX then you don't need GFX power, you need CPU power. Intel Core i5/i7. NVidia GFX card is best as you can customize the anti aliasing.

 

If it's X-Plane, then it does use GFX power as well as CPU, but 3 cards is over the top even for this. You can run X-Plane on full with a GeForce 680.

A couple of Hex Cores, more ram than you'll ever need, and SSD and a couple of decent GFX cards and you'll be set for years!

I'd assume "three outputs" means a triple screen set up. I run three screens from a single GTX 780, one HDMI, two DVI.

 

I'm surprised you can run X-Plane on full with a single 680 - I guess it depends what you mean by full.
