Exporting and Importing FMS data - CSV?

HI folks,

 

SIMS aren't being helpful and neither is the IT department in my school. Both are saying that it's 'impossible' but I have heard that it isn't impossible.

 

What I need to do is take our existing asset inventory (in *.CSV) and import it into SIMS FMS to comply with our federation's guidelines. We currently just have spreadsheets and this "isn't good enough" according to our new federation. IT tell me that we need to start from scratch - but that would mean re-entering serials, purchase prices, etc, etc... all over again.

 

So, can you tell me if it is possible to import our inventory in CSV format to SIMS FMS?

Right folks, I have found that the answer is yes. You can import a CSV of data into FMS.

I'm new to the education sector and SIMS FMS is really grinding my gears, as I'm used to using finance packages that allow you to import/export easily.

 

Where did you find your solution? I'm intrigued!

One for @David_Grashoff perhaps? Didn't Capita change the label in FMS from SIMS .net settings to MIS settings? Makes it sound like you can interface with FMS from other systems (like DoubleFirst ) . I know some of the exports are free, but you have to pay for a license to import so no idea how that works with regards to a API\interface. Edited January 28, 2015 by matt40k
