Hello,

I am trying to get together an API to expose some data from sims. My primary requirement is based around calendar data.

My primary contact is on holls for a week. Thus I was wondering, (if it not against any capita / sims licensing terms), if anyone could tell me the names of the tables I should be looking at?

In addition, I have been reading posts on this forum which imply that sims actually has its own api's, so if anyone knows if there is a calendar api please let me know.

Apologies for being so clueless about sims but I can see there are a lot of learned people on this forum and thus reach out to you for help!

With kind regards,

Tom

Use the SIMS reporting engine. I'm pretty sure what your asking for has been done, over and over again. If you be a bit more specific I'm sure someone will pop up with a more detailed answer then opening SIMS and going Reports > Design report and then scheduling once your happy with (.csv) export.

Hi Matt,

Many thanks for your quick reply. To clarify, I am trying to expose the data contained in the school calendar in real time via a JSON api.

Thus for example, when a request is made to my-sims-api.com/get-calendar?start-date=01012014&end-date=01032014 then the api will return the json equivalent of,

10-01-2014: Whole school assembly

10-01-2014: Exam briefing for Year 8's

10-01-2014 : Year 3 Rugby Match against x school

11-01-2014: Etc. Etc.

With kind regards,

Tom

You should speak to @David_Grashoff about the SIMS API , that would be the best method to access the SIMS data if you really must do it that way and don't want to use the reporting engine and / or the command reporter tool.

I would also say, it's been mentioned a lot , but i don't know of many people who've had success dealing with the SIMS calendar. It might be worth checking with @rpwillis as Salamander can do funky stuff with the SIMS data.

p.s. :welcome: to EG.

EDIT: altered link to David

I don't think the Calendar is as easily accessible as timetables, but there have been a couple of threads on it here for data transfer in both directions, and there were also some in SupportNet but the window for catching old threads there is quickly diminishing.
