TheRower Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I would really like to get in contact with someone who has experience of a 3D printer in a Primary School. Is there anyone out there who would be happy to talk to me about how they have used it, has it been a good/bad experience etc. If so, please can you get in touch, either via this thread or by PM. Thank you
fairm010 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 We are a middle school and taking delivery on Wednesday! Will update here with the teachers views. 1
RTi Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Hi, PM rjm30 on here, they have the Cube 3D Printer. We will possibly be getting one later in the year.. 1
WebBot Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 We're in a secondary school and got a 3D printer three weeks ago. It's an UP! Plus 2 and it's fantastic. Really easy to use. If your kids can handle sketchup, they can design for it. There are more basic tools, like the 123 iPad, which creates 3D models from their 2D sketches, if that's more age appropriate. Webbot 1
TheRower Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 Thank you, that is really helpful. Certainly our older children would be able to handle Sketch-Up. I will have a look at the UP! So far, we have only seen the Makerbot Rep2 demonstrated in school, although I have seen a few other makes at BETT this year. I think half the trouble is, is that there is SO much you can do with one that trying to pick a few selling points gets quite hard. When asked, "What can we do with it?". My answer of, "anything you want, really!" was not that helpful!
