Hey Guys

A lot of staff members have decided to use big backgrounds and shove shortcuts all over their desktops etc which is slowing down the time it takes to log them in. Over the Easter I want to put all this back to the way it was and make them start from fresh is there anyway of doing this?

Cheers

Alex

We don't user roaming profiles for this very reason. We've also disabled being able to save to the desktop so the only place they can save work to is their Documents area.

If they have been saving work to the desktop then deleting the old profiles is going to cause issues for obvious reasons.

And this is why we redirect the desktop to a folder within their documents (favorites too!)

They can't save work but they make shortcuts by right clicking - new - shortcut which I will also be preventing after this is done so they won't loose any work only shortcuts and backgrounds?? Any ideas?

Assuming they are roaming profiles you can delete (or move them somewhere else is probably better just in case) the profiles from the server so they have to start a fresh next time.

Unfortunately existing copies of the profiles on the desktop pcs will propagate back to the server.

You will need to set a gpo to delete profiles older than xx days, and reboot the workstations after the threshold to trigger the housekeeping.

We don't roam folders that can grow uncontrollably.. Desktop, Downloads, much of AppData, sky/one/google drive etc
