Google Cache

I have had a look on the forum and havnt noticed any posts regarding this but if i am mistaken, i am sorry for reposting.

 

A few of our students have noticed that they can get on any website with google cached pages.

 

Does anyone know if it is possible to block access to this.

A quick check of a Google cache page gives its address as starting with:

 

http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache

 

I should think that if you block any pages starting with that URL you'll block a wodge of Google cache pages. I imagine there's probably some other IP addresses used, too, so you might have to enter a number of URLs or maybe a range to block.

i had noticed the ip range they use, i have blocked

 

http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cache

 

i dontknow how that will work thought imagine how big the ip range could possibly be.

 

unless there is a way on cachepilot v3 to block part of a url such as the "search?q=cache" bit. but i have come up empty handedd up to now.

There's certainly a way to block the URL like that in Guardian.. or you can block access to pages which are only an IP address - that may be in CN3?

*/search?q=cache

 

I know it's a bit extreme, but I know CP allows wildcard

That didnt work for me but i have just worked out that you can block the cache using

 

*/search?q*

 

For some reason it doesnt like the = sign. As if i put in */search?q=* it allows the site.

 

I cant imagine any other sites that have that in there search string and if they do bad luck to them.

Not sure if it would make any difference but the text i put in was

 

*/search?q*

 

with a q at the end, but a normal google search url does not have the q part. would this make any difference to cachepilot.
