Yep you read right, this question is about bird boxes. Specifically those available from TAG

This is the sort of bird box made famous by Bill Oddie et al where the birds are sharing the box with a camera. My Headteacher has asked me to look into this - scuse the pun!

Has anyone experience of this that they would care to share please? My initial questions being: does it work effectively, is it easily set up and how easy / difficult is it to get it feeding to IWB's.

What ever you're going to do you're going to need to run cables out to the boxes. I can imagine the headteacher has seen these boxes for £200 and thought that's all it's going to cost.

Gonna need power and the video link obviously, if it's too far might even need something to boost the video signal...

They do sound like quite a fun thing to have tho :p

Dunno but it's expensive.

We looked at doing smoething with these last year, trouble is our pond area where we have bird hide etc... is no where near the main building and they wanted to be able to view the cams over the network.

Thanks Ben,

This looks to be much better value. We are lucky in location, we are a mix of flat and small sloping roofs, the area we are thinking about is on the side of the school where the wireless ariel used to be when we had mobiles so it has holes already. Any ideas how we would set about getting the feed from the camera onto the network though?

May be worth checking what the legal aspects of doing this are, wild birds are protected under the wildlife and countryside act. There could be some code of conduct that needs to be followed. Contact the RSPB
