hallb15 Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 I'd be up for that. Is anyone still using Sophos? Any issues getting updates from from YHGfL instead of LLN?
themightymrp Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Sorry, we switched to ESET anti-virus. I assume you're still with LLN/ICT4Leeds then? Have they provided any new URL's to point the software at?
themightymrp Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Do you bank with HSBC or Barcleys? If so you were probably sent a little digital device at some point for using internet banking. Along with your username and password the device generates a unique code which rotates every couple of minutes or so! This is the same as the Vasco tokens

Have they provided any new URL's to point the software at? Nope, we went with Exa-Networks. I overlooked Sophos. I'd included it in my budget but forgot to place an order-doh! I was just trying to pre-empt any problems.
Marshall_IT Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I'd be up for that. Is anyone still using Sophos? Any issues getting updates from from YHGfL instead of LLN? In using Sophos from yhgfl. You don't have to be with Ict4leeds to use it. As far as I'm aware LLN got Sophos from yhgfl anyway. Sophos from yhgfl is much better proceed than it was from LLN. About the same cost for 5 years as it was per year. If you buy in now they're is only 3 years until the next renewal. Since changing the url is still been working perfectly. 2
themightymrp Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Is there an official Sophos url to point it to in order to get updates maybe? You could pop that in and continue getting them, much like I switched our WSUS server from getting updates from the LLN WSUS and now point straight to Microsoft
jonnykewell1 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) our sophos is now moved over to the YHGFL from LLN and as far as I am aware there are no issues with fetching the updates. we just changed the url to their own update server. Edited March 27, 2014 by jonnykewell1 2

Last time I looked at that it was really expensive.
sted Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 even schools who switched to ict4 leeds use yhgfl for sophos lln have a logon for that you use so its basically the same as going to thgfl for sophos direct except the url/username/password is different 1
hallb15 Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 I've ordered it today from YHGfL - its a one off £190 which lasts until 10/03/2016 and includes 40 home user licenses for staff. Its even cheaper if you use YHGfL for internet as well.
morator Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 All schools need to be aware of a recent safeguarding issue at a Leeds school due to the filtering being poor and allowing children to be able to communicate with adults and being sent obscene materials. This has been on the BBC website: BBC News - Primary school pupils sent 'obscene' messages on Movie Star Planet Schools need to be reviewing their web filtering controls and the providers as this is very concerning.
sted Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 unfortunately things will slip through any net from time to time unless your internet is whitelist only. Any "social" site is a risk and from time to time people get it wrong. The school acted sensibly and quickly once a problem was discovered what more can you do?
ayoward Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Possibly a good place to put or maybe not, but whats the chances of having a Leeds NM meet up during the easter holidays? To discus How people are getting on post LLN or how ICT4Leeds is actually performing. Nothing too in-depth and maybe a drink or 2 afterwards? I would be interested in attending the Leeds NM meeting if I could. I attend the one in East Riding and find it very useful. Always good to share ideas and such like.

IrritableTech Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 So today is the day... Just downloaded a Debian ISO over our LLN connection - I've never seen such speed through their proxies!
themightymrp Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Just waiting for those people who will ask for their email to be transferred You just know it will happen despite WEEKS of warnings
sted Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Just waiting for those people who will ask for their email to be transferred You just know it will happen despite WEEKS of warnings verry much this ive done all the ones people asked for maybe i should do a mass email reminding them come midnight its gone
jonnykewell1 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 The only issue with that is, you'll get 50 people turn up at 3pm wanting it doing.
sted Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 The only issue with that is, you'll get 50 people turn up at 3pm wanting it doing. then vms and they get transfered to pst files and get uploaded at a later date
sted Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 ICT4Leeds - still awful though. @Marshall_IT - am I running the correct AVCO program? Because stored in the settings of mine was a connection to avco.leedslearning.net:323 ??? has anyone else who still has schools with them had issues that stuff that worked on lln and had SPECIFIC rules hasnt been ported just 2 examples off the top of my head parentpay and targer tracker would also be nice if ict4leeds had some web prescence took me a while to find the helpdesk email (they werent answering the phones) 1
IrritableTech Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Have you not got access to the smoothwall @sted? Is it blocked at that point, or the PSN edge firewall? 1
sted Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Have you not got access to the smoothwall @sted? Is it blocked at that point, or the PSN edge firewall? nope no passwords aparantly they changed their minds and the 1 day course i did isnt enough you need to do a 3 day one as to where its blocked no idea it just says failed proxy test with every concievable way of inputting the proxy Edited March 31, 2014 by sted 1
IrritableTech Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Just had my invite email for the Leeds Education Hub. Can't seem to find where to invite/approve others though? Anyone else able to shed any light? [edit] Found a share button. It's right there in the top right! Edited March 31, 2014 by IrritableTech 1
EXA_Mark Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Hi hallb15, we do have a special arrangement set up with ESET if you do want to go down that path rather than Sophos. You deal with them and their distribution directly rather than purchasing through us, and we don't take even a penny margin for it. If you want the contact details just give the office or your account manager a call. Ignore the above hallb15, saw the later post you made about getting Sophos. Sorry. Was not meant to be a sales pitch (as we don't sell it), but to let you know of another option we have set up. It is there for you and all our customers should you need it in the future. Edited March 31, 2014 by EXA_Mark More information on another post 1
