We've just two computers and one phone hanging on for dear life. The computers will be sorted tomorrow, and I'm going to leave the phone plugged in and see what time we're actually cut off on Monday.

Do you think they'll send a box for the 2950 on Tuesday morning?

Shall we hold a post LLN shutdown party?

A party at the end of LLN?

I was hoping to keep hold of the 2950 :) I think it'll cost them more to collect them all than it's worth!

Also i wonder if i'll still be getting the downtime text messages once they do actually close...

lln is dead :cheer2: but how did their replacement get a double digit number of schools (and locked them into a 4 year contract) lol

got some admin servers still got a 2nd nic connected but thats it as atm they havnt said what they arre doing about fms or avco in non lln schools.

I love the fact they have said they wont send emails to schools that left who use office 365 as they arnt secure yet hey will send to schools where they have set up office 365 and one thats stayed but ive set up office 365 so they cant get the school over a barrell again over email addresses

best thing is as soon as its turned off i can remove the switches from cabs and tidy them up

Avco already works from any internet connection - the server was moved a few weeks ago.

FMS (as in FMS Leeds/FAB?) You should have had an email (or your main contact at school) to have your free Vasco tokens assigned. If you have't, PM me your email address and I'll forward the information.

I'd already bought tokens as we left before the switch off date as suggested. I cannot however get this refunded :(

BYE BYE LLN!!!!! :) We've had the connection unplugged for nearly a month now, all FAB/vasco token systems up and running.

I AM however having issues with AVCO not working. Namely... I can't make it work! Anybody know what settings I'm supposed to use with it? I've had nothing from Leeds about this despite me hassling them. I even tried following the setup guide for Globalscape, but when that didn't work I was told "oh we are having issues with that".

HA!

HA!

As per usual the instructions provided didn't work for me either... I made some tweaks to the script that runs and it works fine for me now and has been for about 3 months now.

I can't remember precisely what i changed but it might not work for your anyway.

One thing that i have found is that i need to have the user which controls the scheduled task needs to remain logged in at all times.

ICT4Leeds - still awful though.

@Marshall_IT - am I running the correct AVCO program? Because stored in the settings of mine was a connection to avco.leedslearning.net:323 ???

Hmm. Googled them and all it came up with was EduGeek :)

true but at least you don't need to login to t'internet every 10 mins but its actually slower lol

I meant awful just because of who they are, I don't actually have experience of them :-/ Mean of me I know. We are now with Virgin Media.

Am on with the AVCO thing now, finally got a call back!! Apparently we should still be using the AVCO Anycomms software, the Globalscape EFT has been so much hassle they are shelving it for 6 months (sent back to developers to make an easier install). Will let you all know if it works..... for the sake of it

EFT?? Looks like another support call then! Oh the joy. Surely this must be a simple thing? @IrritableTech - do you know what AVCO stuff is in use?

Yes you should be continuing with AVCO and the address will remain Avco.leedslearning.net:323. The leedslearning.net domain doesn't expire until dec 2014 and it's controlled by the LCC so it makes sense to leave it where it is, and leave one less thing for schools to change.

Eft is a custom cuteftp install which requires a certificate at both ends. A couple of schools have got it running, but due to the fact there have been so many issues, nobody at LCC is using it yet. So they took the decision to extend the Avco licence for six months. We will all be using eft once that expires.

Schools who can't get either working can use ad hock eft (a session via a website is opened for a week) or schools2schools.

Data Management are the best people to speak to regarding installing and configuring any of the above.

I've managed to get my AVCO instance working :) YEY!!

It turned out that although my AVCO settings and firewall settings were correct, we use a custom IPsec policy on our Admin servers which was blocking it! I just needed to modify the policy to allow communication to the new AVCO IP address.

Out of interest, what/who has replaced LLN?

ICT4Leeds is the new rebranded LLN. In reality it's the councils ICT department. I think it's been designed in conjunction with the YHGfL, and their new commercial arm ICT4Collaboration (but happy to be corrected on this).

It is based on the Yorkshire and Humber Public Services Network contract. Connections are supplied by Virgin business, filter/firewall is smoothwall and Office365 for communication.

ICT4Leeds retained around 60 of their previous 260 schools across the city. Most who wanted to keep their current VoIP telephone infrastructure. The remaining 200 schools have pretty much ended up with two local commercial companies.

I'm pleased for you. We must be one of the only schools that managed to get EFT working then. I've not had any complaints for DMT asking me to set AVCO up again. Yet...

Well done!

At a meeting a couple of weeks ago I was talking to another NM who has it working (I've not had the files or instructions yet), but he said that nobody within the council departments knows how to use it, so nothing ever comes through it. Not the case for you then?

No, we get our files through it as far as i know it's working all okay.

I'll double check to make sure AVCO isn't still running...

No, AVCO isn't running anymore and i received files through EFT on the 18/02/2014.

Possibly a good place to put or maybe not, but whats the chances of having a Leeds NM meet up during the easter holidays?

To discus How people are getting on post LLN or how ICT4Leeds is actually performing.

Nothing too in-depth and maybe a drink or 2 afterwards?
