ccc Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I'm trying to get hold of a power supply for our VC AMX MVP-5150 and so far failing miserably, it is a PS3.0 Power Supply (FG423-30), Output Voltage: • 13.5 VDC, Output Current: • 3.0 A.Connectors: • 1.3mm barrel plug, 11mm long.
LosOjos Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Quite an unusual value to try to find 13.5v - I'd be tempted to try with a 12v and see if it works, just do not use anything higher than 13.5v. Amps can be as high as you like, but should be at least 3 if that's how much it draws. Have you had a dig around your spare laptop chargers to see if anything fits the bill?
LosOjos Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Oh and I forgot to say, check the polarity! There will be a small symbol showing the polarity near the PSU socket on the device, like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/68/AC_adaptor_polarity.png/640px-AC_adaptor_polarity.png You never want to plug in a PSU with reversed polarity (as compared to the input), that's a sure fire way to blow something
ccc Posted March 21, 2014 Author Posted March 21, 2014 Thank you LosOjos. The 12v with 3a would probably work it's the '1.3mm barrel plug' thats the main problem, we do not have any laptop chargers with such a small connector? John
LosOjos Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Could you get an adapter if you can find one that will fit one of your existing PSUs maybe? Connectors - Adaptors | CPC | Results Or you could of course chop the existing plug off and replace it, which would also give you the option of changing the polarity if necessary: Connectors - Mains, Power etc. | CPC | Results Sometimes it's just easier and cheaper to DIY these things! 1
crc-ict Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 If you are handy with a soldering iron CPC could probably provide a 1.3mm plug to attach to a suitable PSU. And isn't 13.5V a common battery charger output?
ccc Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 I've managed to find a company that Specialises in AMX equipment locally and they will check our AMX gear. Thank you for helping.
