Webpage formatting problem using Publisher

I maintain the school website which I have kept as simple as possible because I have no time, inclination or the skill to make a decent job. The office staff produce newsletters etc. using Publisher, so I just take their source and let Publisher do the work. I understand that Publisher doesn't make a very good job of it but it works. Except that where the typist has used tabs it often translates these as "???" on the webpage. I plan to try and resolve this over the holiday but thought you guys might be able to save me some time. I really don't want to use a different package to produce the website. Here's a good (bad) example.

does it look any better if you export to word from publisher then save as html ?

That does indeed look nasty.

 

Have you considered turning the newsletters into PDFs? You could simply link to these and have visitors download them.

 

BTW... visiting your site doesn't work too well for me (no images and cannot click anything). I am using Firefox in Linux.

Sure someone will have a idea but i cant think of anything... not a great fan of using ms products to produce web pages myself but i guess sometimes it cant be helped. I dont really think saving it as a word document then saving it as a web page would help... its likely you get other problems with it.

You could try a two-step approach.

 

Export (print) to PDF, then use a converter such as PDF-to-HTML to get the final format.

The newsletter and prospectus are stored as pdf files, I just wanted the Useful Information page to be quick and easy. I tend to use it a lot in conjunction with the EasyJet booking site

 

I'll try the pdf-htlm route. I thought I'd fixed the problems with non-MS browsers. I'm afraid my view is that I'm Using MS Windows, MS Publisher and it works on an MS Browser. Whilst it is unfortunate that it doesn't work with Firefox is just as much down to Firefox as IE. I keep thinking I'll try something like Dreamweaver but I really can't be @rsed.

It seems to be certain character sequences it doesn't like. It makes sense that I get to grips with a different web creator so some recommendations would be appreciated. It needs to be reasonably simple to learn and cheap.

News letters on our site go up as PDF files.

 

PrimoPDF is free and does a very good job. I have not had any complaints about doing it this way.

Our newsletters go on as pdf files. That bit's fine. The problem is with the way Publisher generates the html code for the site itself and that's what I'm looking for a different method.
