jhothersall Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Just a quick one, what a peoples plans for Moodle? Early indications are that assessment based quizzes won't transfer over to MyBigCampus, which will be a huge problem for us. I'm currently looking to move over to a 3rd party and have been out to 3 companies with the price of about £1000 pa. I'm planning to take part in the MyBigCampus pilot too, but that is a little behind schedule. How is it going for others? James
ellsandell Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 We are taking part in the pilot, so not making decisions until we get hold of it, however good chance we are going to have to get it hosted externally - most quotes have been about the same as above.
Strawdog Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Would you mind sharing who you obtained quotes from and what was included (webspace, updates, etc.)? All the ones I've received have been quite a bit higher than £1000 p/a I'm presuming the quotes don't include migration and upgrade (1.9-2.6) of your existing Moodle data or any kind of theme creation?
buzzard Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Out of interest would hosting it yourself not be an option?
Strawdog Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 We're a BSF school so adding externally accessible web servers to our internal infrastructure is an exercise in frustration and takes an inordinate amount of time and money
buzzard Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Fair enough, whens the BSF contract due up or are you one of the last ones in?
Strawdog Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Not long - August 2015 but not soon enough for us hang on for our Moodle provision.
ellsandell Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Check out the Schools portal, letter about Moodle and My Big Campus, i.e. what your options are.
Strawdog Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I've not had anything through the portal about it but I got an email last week, after requesting a backup of our Moodle site and being told we would be charged for it, to say they'd changed their minds and they were actually going to continue running Moodle past August. Still not had any official communication of that decision and love that they think telling schools a month before the end of term is sufficient forewarning...

I can give you a copy of what we received if you like? Elliot
Strawdog Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 If you could that would be appreciated, we've already signed a contract for moving our Moodle hosting elsewhere but it would be nice to know what's going on I thought possibly someone else here has received it but given I'm the ICT manager and generally receive a copy of everything posted on the portal (including asbestos warnings, firework advisories, etc.) I would have expected to see something concerning Moodle...
LansITGuy Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 If it will help anyone, it turns out my school is on the pilot list (not that I was told about this until I got an email from My Big Campus!). I haven't got my account through yet, but once I do I can pass on any info.
