LearnPads vs iPads

Hi there

 

Do any schools on here have LearnPads?

 

Are they any good and - importantly - do they support Flash?

 

Or can you recommend an alternative? iPads??

Flash - yes

Any good - ??? Holding out on that one as we are just in the process of setting up 60 of them. So far device itself is good but we are having problems with connection to the LearnPad servers and wireless drop outs. Currently working with the Avantis to resolve.

We have just purchased a LearnPad for testing purposes for a project. Works well with our meru wireless network. Students find it nice and quick. Really easy for us to administer plus the mdm has some really handy features like the qr code setup and the ability to hand work in from the tablet to the web interface wirelessly.

 

We also have 40 iPads too. These are such a pain to administer and supervise as you really need a mac if you want to lock them down in to supervised mode. They also take time to transfer content from the iPads. Though iOS 7 has made it easier to connect them to any computer to transfer content.

Between my 2 schools we have over 200 learnpads and about ipads. The iPads are rarely used and learnpads are fought over.

Easy to use and manage and the fact flash works it opens up loads of the BBC site for kids.

I was impressed by the management features vs iPad in demos. The main important area I am unsure whether the iPad is stronger is in range of apps. Have LearnPad owners felt any deficiencies in that respect?

From what I have seen, apple have more apps in the App Store and developers seem to develop for that but the LearnPads do allow you to install content from the google play store and you can allow these apps on the LearnPads. I think the issue is more with a lack of volume purchasing from google, unless I have missed this ability.
