ConradJones Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) I have KVM on a linux mint (KDE) 15 machine, so basically ubuntu for the purposes of troubleshooting The VMs have lost their networking a few times.. it was happening quite a lot when using VIRTIO nics. so i swapped them for realteks. its not happening so much but its happened again now... You at least have to kill the VM and restart.. ifdown / ifup on the host of eth0 or br0 doesn't fix it. I actually rebooted the host this time as i needed to physically move it. ----------------------------------- I would rather keep using KVM than VMware workstation as it workstation tends to throw a fit every now and again and thrash the disk endlessly for no apparent reason.... cpjitservices Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 You could try KVM on CentOS - I've had nothing but success, with it. Servers been up for over 2 years now and is running 7-8 Virtual Machines on KVM. Nothings ever dropped so it could be an Ubuntu/MINT problem possibly. Have you checked see if there are any updates available ?
ConradJones Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 I suspect its the windows 8/server 2012 drivers.. as thinking about it I didn't have any problems with linux VMs .it might be worth checking for windows updates etc.. Centos isn't really an option (this is my desktop) I'd rather put up with it then use centos as a desktop..... I know where your coming from, certain under the hood can be a little flakey. (The idea of ubuntu server doesn't fill me with confidence, if it was a proper server it would be centos or suse)

ConradJones Posted March 21, 2014 Author Posted March 21, 2014 a little bit iffy on a suse guest as well, network carried on working..... but iwas scp'ing from the SUSE guest to a web site host far far away in a datacenter somewhere and it would drop the scp connection about half way through...... scp the file to the VM's host and then to the web site, transfered first time........
