MS office 2010 shortcut issue on Windows 7

Hi guys.

I came across with a shortcut issue while I was setting up some laptops in a new school that we have just started to support.

Here is the setup:

The users have identical desktop and start menus. I setup couple of new Toshiba laptops to replace existing ones. I installed MS Office 2010 and some other programs then I logged in as the user. The shortcuts for any of the MS Office programs were not working. It said that the program not installed. Than I thought it must be to do with the fact that the laptop is 64bit and the shortcuts are for 32bit. So I created the shortcuts on the laptop and I copied them to shared area where the other shortcuts were. After I logged in as the user but the new shortcuts were not working either. Then I thought it might be to do with the start in bit in the shortcut so I gave the exact location of the program but that didn’t work either. Lastly I created a completely new shortcut pointing to the exe file like word before creating it I tested the location by pasting into the browser which worked so then I created this shortcut but frustratingly the shortcut was still not working.

Any ideas?

When you say not working is it erroring, or saying it doesn't exist or what?

 

Could be as simple as you have software restriction setup so it's blocking the x86 version of program files etc.

I think it says that it does not exist which I found odd as I know it is installed!

I assume you can browse to c:\program files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\WinWord.exe ? And from there open Word and make sure it is installed and working?

Yes I did that. After that I even created a new shortcut, pasted the location to start in and moved the shortcut into the profile but still didn't work.

But Word did open when you ran the .exe ?

Yes it did run

Not doubting you in any way but is there a chance you can post a screenshot of the error?

did you install for all users?

After joining the laptop to the domain I logged in as the administrator than I installed it so I think yes. There was no option for current or all users

I fixed it by login as the user and reinstalling office.
