I dont know whats going wrong, I have done everything said and it still doesnt change the background. I have even made the gpo enforced

 

Has the background been copied to C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds?

I ran that as sysadmin on my desktop, to see if anything was failing, and I'm being told RSoP is unable to generate data.

 

Details: invalid namespace.

will check in morning as i am off site and it wont let me remote in for some reason. surly it is running though if it has copied the file?

RSoP has always worked for me. If there are issues run gpresult /h gpo.html from a command prompt as admin to dump the applied GPO settings into a readable HTML document.

It will dump it into C:\Users\%username%

 

Although you can specify any path you want. For example:

 

Gpresult /h c:\gpos\gpo.html

just that one, also the results of the gpo confirm always use custom logon backround

does the custom background not have to replace the background.jpg in the oobe\ file or am i barking up the wrong tree? otherwise how does it know which file to actually use?

just to let you know i have it working, googled and found that you also need to create a reg edit gpo

Action: Create

Hive: HKLM

Key path: Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background

Value name: OEMBackground

Value type: REG_DWORD

Value data: 0x1 (1)

 

^ copy and pasted from my group policies. needed that in order for it to pickup a custom background in the system32\oobe\backgrounds folder, as that group policy of "use custom background" or whatever it is, appears to do sweet FA

 

Lastly just to make sure, you have got it in this folder, with this spelling and this name: C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds\BackgroundDefault.jpg (why does this forum keep sticking random spaces in places today?)

If there is more than a certain number of characters in a "word", it pops a space in there.
