Hi all,

Having problems with Spiceworks. Installed on the server and works fine but the shortcut pointing to it on staff desktops doesn't work. Birmingham City Council School.

Any ideas?

Thanks

How are you pointing it? for example the link on our staff desktop goes to http://spice/portal

and have you got it set in internet explorer settings to bypass proxy? or set it up so it doesn't use the proxy for http://spice and also I put the IP address of the machine/server its on in there as well..

You usually have to specify the port in the shortcut. The default is 9675, unless you've changed it. e.g. http://servername:9675/portal

Is it running as a service on the server? Right-click on the Spiceworks icon in the systray on the server to check.

There's a whole load of other possible reasons but without more specific info, its hard to give more help.

Have you tried the shortcut without the port for example http://curricsvr1/portal also yeah make sure you have the details in the "do not use proxy server for address beginning with;" then list the IP address and port, server name etc just everything you can think of that is linked to the spiceworks server.. let us know how u get on

As @Griff said, its likely to be proxy related.

Check internet settings on the workstation and make sure Bypass proxy server for local addresses is ticked

Try using the IP address of the server instead of the server name. e.g. http://192.168.1.100:9675/portal (or whatever your server IP address is)

If you're still not getting anywhere, check you can ping the server from the command prompt on the staff workstation.
