because i promised her i would ask....

A member of staff came to me today to tell me about her memory stick. When she went to remove if from the PC last night, she said it was red hot.

In actual fact, It got so hot that it's warped the plastic on it.

Same old story, i'm afraid. Hours and hours of work on there with no backups. I'm assuming there's nothing magical i can do to retrieve some data off there....

Would be worried about it being 'red-hot'... Unless there is some sort of short or they magically somehow managed to put it in upside down.

Teacher came to me a while ago with a usb stick and she'd snapped the head (connector part). As I was trying to lay them back together with the help of a USB extender on my desk, I realised I must have laid it on the wrong way round. Cue smoke and writing on the memory chips actually bubbling! Well, it certainly didn't work after that, but same story... a whole years work = no backups...

Photorec if Windows still recognises it?

And the student data entered in the MIS.

Oh how we laughed...
